Garry was born in new york Garry studied painting at city college of new york and photography at colombian university in new york city in 1948 he also attended a photo journalism class thought by Alexey brodovich. Garry is a dedicated photographer. Winograd made manny books like "the animals' in 1969 & relations in 1977. At the time of his death there was discovered about 2,500 rolls of undeveloped film, 6,500 rolls of developed but not proofed exposures, and contact sheets made from about 3,000 rolls.
in 1964 Winograd was awarded a guggenheim fellowship award to travel through america. Winograd died of gall bladder cancer he left behind nearly 300,000 unedited images.
